The company's long-term strategy is to move away from the MS stack, so we design the new microservices with the freedom to migrate from SQL Server to PostgreSQL. We verify compatibility regularly: EF Core lets you swap the provider, and the tests pass on Postgres. A production cluster is still a way off, but the option is baked in — the groundwork for migration is ready.
