Explored gRPC as a REST alternative for service-to-service communication. Contracts via .proto files, the binary Protobuf protocol, bidirectional streaming. For internal services the performance story looks tempting. We haven't switched yet — REST+JSON is plenty for our volumes, and migrating would mean reworking a chunk of the clients.
